High Tide Festival August 2009
High Tide is a festival and a celebration of the local coastal environment.
Participants work with professional local artists and tutors Chris Elliott, Helen Astley and Sarah Rigby to create
artworks and sculptures leading to a procession to Manorbier beach. This year's theme was biodiversity and participants learnt about weird and wonderful sea creatures
such as sea lettace; sea slugs; sea potatoes and sea mice!
High Tide received sponsorship
from Murco and Manorbier Stores & Post Office, as well as grants from Support the Arts, Pembrokeshire County Council and
Pembrokeshire Biodiversity Fund. High Tide is also supported by Manorbier & District Community Association.

NEWS FROM Y NYTH STEINER KINDERGARTEN

Since opening our doors in January we have been incredibly busy , both in spreading the word about
what we are and what we do and in steadily building our numbers . Steiner education at the early years stage is centred on
the needs of the developing child , therefore the learning is through play and practical experience and built around a reassuring
repetitive rhythm. The children have lots of time and opportunity for free play both indoors and outdoors with several home
corners for role play and dens. Outside we have a large secure garden, vegetable patch , playhouse and covered sand pit. We
also have chickens, ducks and a rabbit all cared for by the children. Creative art and craft activities such as beeswax
or clay modelling, working with wool and fabric and watercolour painting are all experienced by the children Each
day the children in kindergarten help to prepare a warm meal together which is eaten communally around a table which will
have seasonal flowers and a candle as its centre, this builds the foundations for an understanding and appreciation of good
food eaten together and good table manners ! The kindergarten is run by a qualified Steiner teacher and has two other members
of staff also gaining qualifications. The maximum number of children we take in any session is 8. The sessions themselves
are morning/ afternoon or all day Monday to Friday. We also run a parent baby - toddler group on a Thursday morning 10 till
12 this is £ 5 for the session and allows parents and children to have a gentle introduction to the kindergarten. Here are
a selection of some photos taken showing just a fraction of what we have been doing since opening . If you would like further
information call Sarah on 871003 or call at Baldwins Moor itself .

Sensational First Season
for Manorbier Women and Girls.
Women’s football in
its first season at Manorbier has become firmly established with the Women’s team winning the West Wales Women’s
League Cup and the Under 16 girls winning the West Wales Tesco cup and reaching the West Wales League Cup Final (yet to be
played) not to mention coming runners up in the West Wales League. The village of Manorbier was possibly unknown in West Wales
footballing circles at the start of the season but the certainly all know about us now. A number of the girls have been included
in the West Wales Squad and Team Captain Molly Furnival- Doran has had full Welsh honours at both under 15 and under 17 level
and Angharad James also representing Wales at under 15 level.
It’s not all been
plain sailing as part of the girls problem is lack of players, for many games this season they could only field nine or ten,
in fact, this was the case for the two league games that they lost – had they have won those games they would also have
been crowned league champions. A big recruitment drive is needed immediately, if anyone is interested or knows anyone who
would be interested, then please contact coach Gerry Rigby on 07974831312. Next season, the league becomes under 17’s
which means that none of the current squad will leave the team so we have a good foundation to build on.
The great news for next
season is that Manorbier Ladies have been invited to join the National League; this will mean games all over Wales against
the likes of Cardiff and Swansea. We will continue to play a ladies team in the West Wales league and cup competitions, the
girls at under 17’s level and introduce an under 14’s side. We would welcome anyone from the Manorbier community to come and support our home
games – we look forward to seeing you!

MDCA meet with MCC.
Manorbier Community Council invited the Manorbier & District Community Association to their meeting
last night, April 6th. 09 to discuss the Trust Deed which was set up between the two groups in 1994 and is expiring in
Oct. 09.
The MDCA had written to the Chair of MCC highlighting this situation,, a copy
of the letter is shown below. After discussion it was decided to agenda it for the next MCC meeting. The MDCA will continue to
operate as usual until it has a further meeting with the MCC.
MANORBIER & DISTRICT COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
Charity No. 701414
April 1st. 09
Dear Ray,
The following is a result of the meetings held by the MDCA to discuss and decide the way forward
regarding the imminent expiry of the Trust Deed for Skrinkle. This has got to be resolved as a matter of urgency.
The MDCA will continue to manage the Sports Field and Pavilion as laid out in the separate
Trust Deed.
Following a review of the Leases, Sub leases of the Skrinkle Centre the MDCA have identified
the following conditions of use.
The MCC, under the terms of the under lease with the YHA, are responsible for all repairs and
maintenance of the Skrinkle Centre. This also includes responsibility for obtaining all the necessary licences and insurances
which are mandatory for the public use of Halls.
In effect, the MCC must perform and observe all the covenants of the under lease.
Unfortunately over the years many changes of personnel have taken place both within the MCC
and the MDCA. This has resulted in the division of responsibilities becoming blurred and confused. Unwittingly, the MDCA has
carried out work and taken on the financial responsibilities which were undoubtedly the lawful responsibility of the MCC.
The MCC should have sanctioned any proposed work, before the MDCA applied for the grants and / or sponsorship to carry out
the identified work.
The MCC are responsible for the following:-
Public Entertainments Licence, Fire Safety Certificates, Premises Licence, Performing Rights
Licence.
The upgrading of Skrinkle ie. Decorating etc. and the payments for cleaning.
Members of the MDCA have been made aware of all
of the above, which were discussed at the AGM in Feb. 09 and at a subsequent meeting held in March 09.
Both meetings felt that the present officers of the MDCA had successfully managed Skrinkle
since their appointment in 2006. Members expressed concern over the lack of clarity between the roles of the MCC and the MDCA.
The financial responsibilities were highlighted, because some of the monies acquired were inadvertently not used for charitable
purposes.
The Deed of Trust between the MCC and the MDCA
in respect of Skrinkle expires on the 1st. October 2009.
The MDCA needs to discuss the following options with the MCC regarding the renewal of the Trust
Deed.
Before discussions take place, the MCC must acknowledge and accept their duties, responsibilities
and legal obligations for Skrinkle as stated in the under lease.
OPTIONS
1
The MDCA hand back all responsibilities for
Skrinkle Centre to the MCC
2
That the MDCA enters into a short term contract
with the MCC to continue to manage Skrinkle ie. Continue be the key holders,
take the bookings, to continue to actively encourage the use of the Hall and send out the invoices. The revenue from the Hall
would be retained by the MDCA, and then it would be used for the benefit of the Community. The MDCA officers will continue
to work for the community in a volunteer capacity.
3
The MDCA will carry out the duties listed
under 2 above, in return for an agreed fee for this service and an agreed donation for the Community, so that the Community
would benefit from the money raised in this option.
The members of the MDCA will be informed of the outcome
of this meeting on the newly constructed web site www.manorbiercommunity.com/
Sports Pavilion.
The sports pavillion is in the process of having a facelift, thanks
to the huge efforts made by a small group of volunteers both young and old!
The new equipment hut kindly donated by "CHEVRON" has been
erected, allowing for refurbishment of the interior, which will allow the main room to be used for meetings in addition to
serving refreshments during the cricket season.
Our sincere thanks goes to the volunteers and Chevron who have
made these improvments possible
